Wattage Converter

How to find a Wattage Converter device?

If your device is single voltage, we think that you need a Wattage Converter or transformer device to switch voltage from the source to your house that is suitable for use.

Choosing step up or step down converter?

Maybe when you find the word "Wattage Converter", you know the formula:

P=U*I

(P= rated power, measured by wattage, U= voltage, measured by Voltage, I = intensity of the current, measured by Amperes)

Because I (Intensity of the current) is constant at every point in the electric circuit, if you want to find a wattage converter device, it is the same meaning with voltage converter one.

If your device is single voltage, we think that you need a Wattage Converter device to switch voltage from the source to your house or factory that is suitable for use.

What is the wattage converter?

A wattage converter is an electric device using the electromagnetic principle to change the voltage from the primary side to the secondary side. Their purpose like a transformer.

How to calculate the device's wattage?

You need to know your device's wattage to determine the appropriate voltage converter to purchase, so look on your device's indications label for the W to get this information. Then, be sure to buy a converter with a wattage rating that is two to three times higher than the device you plan to operate to convert safely.

For example, if your device or appliance is 300W, get a converter or transformer that is 600W.

When in doubt, you can buy a converter with a much higher wattage. If you use too many watts from a transformer, there is no harm, but your device will not work if there’s not enough.

For items that need a big surge of power when it’s initially switched on like TVs, power tools, laser printers, you can choose a converter with a wattage rate that is THREE times greater than that of your device. For example, a 500W tool requires a 1500W converter to safely and successfully convert.

Different devices have different needs. For example, a small, non-heating electric shaver should be good with a 100W voltage converter. However, for larger items that require heat, like an iron, curling iron, or even hairdryer, you will need a more powerful converter.

If you can’t find the wattage on your device, don’t worry; it isn’t always listed. Instead, some power labels provide amperes, which can be used to find your wattage. You can use a simple formula: V x A = W

Firstly, find the voltage (V). Then, find the amps (A). Now, multiply those to get the watts

Example 110V x 5A =550W

Choosing step up or step down converter?

Next, we advise that you should find out if you need a step-up or a step-down converter.

Step Up Step Down: So, if you want to switch from a 110V source with your 110V devices to a 220V source, you’ll need a Step-down Converter. And likewise, if you switch from a 220V source to a 110V source and you have 220V devices, you guessed it, a Step-up converter. It's so easy, right? And even better, many converters act as a Step Up and Step Down Converter which is suitable for all your favorite devices and you can bring it everywhere.

Note: Many US clothing driers and electric devices use 220 V. Voltage converters (transformer) are designed to convert voltage from a source that is lower than 40.5 kva to any voltage which is suitable for your factory or your home.

Some appliances need more than a voltage converter

Another note on converting:

Voltage regulator

Some countries have unstable voltage. Suppose you’re skeptical about the quality of the power supply of your destination. In that case, you’ll need a voltage regulator (also called a transformer) that will safely stabilize the voltage during conversion. They are all designed with a built-in voltage regulator, so make sure you check your watts these safe bets before choosing your wattage converter.
